Spatiotemporal drought analysis by the standardized precipitation index (SPI) and standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) in Sichuan Province, China

Changhong Liu et al.

Summary: Drought in Sichuan Province shows differences in characteristics between different physiognomy types, with increasing intensity in the western region mainly concentrated in the Sichuan basin. Altitude is not the main factor causing spatial unevenness of precipitation in Sichuan Province, as altitude, temperature, longitude, and latitude jointly determine precipitation distribution.

Quantitative analysis of nonlinear climate change impact on drought based on the standardized precipitation and evapotranspiration index

Ruxin Zhao et al.

Summary: This study found that drought in the Songnen Plain of Northeast China was marginally alleviated during 1961-2016, especially in spring, winter, the growing season, and on the annual timescale. Significant trends were observed in temperature, sunshine duration, and wind speed, with temperature exacerbating drought tendency and net radiation and wind speed offsetting the drought tendency caused by rising temperature. The positive contribution of wind speed was larger than the negative contribution of temperature, particularly in areas around 46 degrees N.

Spatio-temporal evolution and non-stationary characteristics of meteorological drought in inland arid areas

Bing He et al.

Summary: This study investigated the non-stationary characteristics and spatiotemporal variation of drought in an inland arid area using the BFAST method. The results showed a significant increase in the duration and intensity of drought events after 1996, as well as differences in drought frequency and intensity in different seasons.

Construction of combined drought index based on bivariate joint distribution

Yanling Li et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a bivariate combined drought index based on copula function and uses cross-wavelet transform to study the relationship of drought and identify lags in the propagation process. Results show that the index can characterize hydrological and meteorological drought simultaneously and provide strong support for drought detection and prevention.
