Deciphering Single-Bacterium Adhesion Behavior Modulated by Extracellular Electron Transfer

Light-Activated Electron Transfer and Catalytic Mechanism of Carnitine Oxidation by Rieske-Type Oxygenase from Human Microbiota

Summary: The oxidation of quaternary ammonium substrate, carnitine, by non-heme iron-containing Acinetobacter baumannii (Ab) oxygenase CntA/reductase CntB is associated with cardiovascular disease. A study using blue-light activation of NADH coupled with EPR measurements revealed that electron transfer from NADH to the oxidized [2Fe-2S] cluster in AbCntA only occurs in the presence of carnitine. The AbCntA-E205A mutant showed severely affected electron transfer, leading to a significant loss of catalytic activity.

Conjugating Peptides onto 1D Rodlike Bionanoparticles for Enhanced Activity against Gram-Negative Bacteria

Summary: By conjugating peptides onto tobacco mosaic virus, the resulting nanoparticles show significantly enhanced antibacterial effects against Gram-negative bacteria. The high osmotic pressure and reactive oxygen species generated by the peptide-TMV cause the death of Escherichia coli, while also downregulating biofilm-related genes to inhibit biofilm formation. This study opens up new possibilities for combating Gram-negative bacteria-related infections.
