Wafer-Scale Epitaxial Growth of Unidirectional WS2 Monolayers on Sapphire

Mikhail Chubarov et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the successful realization of fully coalesced unidirectional WS2 monolayers on sapphire substrates, with reduced density of inversion and translational boundaries. The results show the potential of achieving wafer-scale TMD monolayers with properties approaching those of exfoliated flakes.

Formation of metal vacancy arrays in coalesced WS2 monolayer films

Danielle Reifsnyder Hickey et al.

Summary: This study uses scanning transmission electron microscopy to reveal various linear arrays of W-vacancy defects, which are explained through atomistic scale simulations. It is hypothesized that the arrays result from combined growth modes driven by competition between the sapphire substrate and neighboring growth edge. These findings provide guidance for future synthetic and processing strategies to harness the engineering potential of defects in 2D monolayers.
