A combined analysis of the H0 late time direct measurements and the impact on the Dark Energy sector

Eleonora Di Valentino

Summary: The study combines multiple measurements of the Hubble constant, resulting in an optimistic estimate of H-0 = 72.94 +/- 0.75 km s(-1) Mpc(-1), significantly different from the ACDM model. The research also highlights various new phenomena that emerge in different dark energy cosmological models, such as phantom dark energy and coupling between dark matter and dark energy.

Barred spiral galaxies in modified gravity theories

Mahmood Roshan et al.

Summary: The study finds a tension between simulated galaxy bars formed in the standard cosmological context, which rotate slowly due to dynamical friction with dark matter, and observed galactic bars, which rotate faster. Comparison of different gravity theories shows that extended gravity models predict weaker bars and faster bar speed patterns compared to the standard model with dark matter, partly due to the negligible role of dynamical friction in extended gravity scenarios. The absence of strong bars in extended gravity simulations is in tension with observations, but they do reproduce the observational preference for faster bar pattern speeds.

Strong Bound on Canonical Ultralight Axion Dark Matter from the Lyman-Alpha Forest

Keir K. Rogers et al.

Summary: By using the Lyman-alpha forest to search for suppressed cosmic structure growth, we present a new lower limit on the ultralight axion (ULA) dark matter mass m(a): m(a) > 2 x 10(-20) eV. This study strongly disfavors the canonical ULA with mass within the range of 10(-22) eV to 10(-21) eV.

Applying the Tremaine-Weinberg Method to Nearby Galaxies: Stellar-mass-based Pattern Speeds and Comparisons with ISM Kinematics

Thomas G. Williams et al.

Summary: This study applied the Tremaine-Weinberg method to analyze 19 nearby galaxies, finding that half of the stellar-mass-based measurements were reliable and in agreement with previous studies. However, it was concluded that pattern speeds derived from ISM kinematics are not advisable as they provide erroneous signals.

Bar pattern speeds in CALIFA galaxies: III. Solving the puzzle of ultrafast bars

Virginia Cuomo et al.

Summary: Ultrafast bars, which challenge our understanding of the orbital structure of barred galaxies, are no longer observed when the correct measurement of the bar radius is adopted. Derived from the Calar Alto Legacy Integral Field Spectroscopy Area Survey, these bars in spiral galaxies often overlap with inner rings or strong spiral arms, leading to unreliable measurements using traditional methods like ellipse fitting and Fourier analysis. Additional research is needed to develop a solid measurement method for bar radii in galaxies with complex structures.

Revisiting the tension between fast bars and the ΛCDM paradigm

F. Fragkoudi et al.

Summary: Research has shown that the rotation speed of bars in galaxies is closely related to the amount of dark matter in their inner regions. Recent cosmological simulations suggest that bars form fastest in galaxies with higher stellar-to-dark matter ratios and more baryon-dominated composition. This highlights a discrepancy between dynamically inferred ratios and those inferred from abundance matching.

Introducing the NEWHORIZON simulation: Galaxy properties with resolved internal dynamics across cosmic time

Yohan Dubois et al.

Summary: Hydrodynamical cosmological simulations are becoming more realistic by considering additional physical processes and higher resolution, such as the NEWHORIZON project which focuses on high-resolution zoom-in simulations within galaxies. The simulation reproduces various scaling relations and captures the inefficiency of star formation and evolution processes in galaxies, providing insights into galaxy formation physics at low-to-intermediate stellar masses.

A massive blow for ACDM - the high redshift, mass, and collision velocity of the interacting galaxy cluster El Gordo contradicts concordance cosmology

Elena Asencio et al.

Summary: The research analyzed the formation and properties of the galaxy cluster El Gordo, and determined the probability of finding a similar cluster in a ΛCDM cosmology through simulations of turnaround pairs. The study results indicate that the properties of El Gordo and the fast collision between two individually rare massive clusters are unexpected, potentially revealing new cosmological theories.
