Impact of baryons in cosmic shear analyses with tomographic aperture mass statistics

Nicolas Martinet et al.

Summary: NonGaussian cosmic shear statistics based on weak-lensing aperture mass (M-ap) maps show better cosmological constraining power compared to classical shear two-point correlation functions (gamma-2PCF). Accurate modeling of baryonic physics is necessary to fully utilize these estimators, as the extra nonGaussian information mainly resides at small scales. The biases due to baryonic effects on lensing PDF and the distribution of peaks and voids in M-ap maps impact cosmological forecasts on key parameters such as structure growth, matter density, and dark energy equation of state.

κTNG: effect of baryonic processes on weak lensing with IllustrisTNG simulations

Ken Osato et al.

Summary: In this study, the authors used a suite of mock weak lensing (WL) maps, the kappa TNG, based on the cosmological hydrodynamic simulations IllustrisTNG, to investigate the effect of baryonic processes on WL observables. They found that baryonic processes reduce small-scale power, suppress the tails of the PDF, peak and minimum counts, and change the total number of peaks and minima. The study also includes the redshift evolution of these effects, which helps in distinguishing baryonic effects from fundamental physics.

Nuw CDM cosmology from the weak-lensing convergence PDF

Aoife Boyle et al.

Summary: The study focuses on accurately determining the total neutrino mass and the dark energy equation of state parameters through weak lensing probes. It calculates the convergence PDF using large-deviation statistics and validates the model against simulated data, demonstrating its precision and reliability, showing the advantages of the approach over other methods.
