A pebble accretion model for the formation of the terrestrial planets in the solar system

Anders Johansen et al.

Summary: Millimeter-sized pebbles are abundant in protoplanetary discs around young stars, and may play a role in the formation of terrestrial planets. A model suggests that inward-drifting pebbles can contribute to the growth of terrestrial planets, with the isotopic compositions of Earth and Mars supporting this theory. Additionally, the water and carbon budget of Earth could have been delivered by pebbles from an early generation.

In situ formation of hot Jupiters with companion super-Earths

Sanson T. S. Poon et al.

Summary: Observations have shown the existence of systems with hot Jupiters and smaller planetary companions. N-body simulations were used to examine the formation of such systems, with two different models leading to the formation of systems with hot Jupiters and super-Earths. Approximately 1% of simulations formed giant planets, and synthetic transit observations provided an occurrence rate similar to actual surveys.

Protoplanetary Disk Rings as Sites for Planetesimal Formation

Daniel Carrera et al.

Summary: Research shows that even a small pressure bump in protoplanetary disks may lead to planetesimal formation via the streaming instability without fully halting radial particle drift. Additionally, pure gravitational collapse via concentration in pressure bumps is not responsible for planetesimal formation, and there is tentative evidence that planetesimal formation does not occur for millimeter-sized particles. This study highlights the robustness of planetesimal formation in pressure bumps for centimeter-sized particles.
