Magellanic Mayhem: Metallicities and Motions

J. Grady et al.

Summary: By utilizing machine-learning methods to obtain photometric metallicity estimates of red giants in the Magellanic Clouds, researchers have uncovered important features of the chemical structure of the galaxy as well as the interactions between the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC).

The VMC survey - XLI. Stellar proper motions within the Small Magellanic Cloud

Florian Niederhofer et al.

Summary: This study utilized data from the VISTA survey to measure proper motions of stars within the SMC, finding that the galaxy may be experiencing stretching or stripping of its outer regions. The internal kinematics of young and old stellar populations were analyzed separately, revealing different motion patterns in different age groups.

Stellar substructures in the periphery of the Magellanic Clouds with the VISTA hemisphere survey from the red clump and other tracers

Dalal El Youssoufi et al.

Summary: Using near-infrared imaging data, we studied the morphology of the stellar periphery of the Magellanic Clouds and found substructures related to different stellar populations interacting histories, suggesting influences from the Milky Way and the ellipsoidal structure of the galaxy. Additionally, a bi-modal distance distribution of red clump stars in the SMC was confirmed, along with the detection of background and foreground structures potentially associated with the Counter Bridge and the Old Bridge.

OGLE-ing the Magellanic System: Optical Reddening Maps of the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds from Red Clump Stars

D. M. Skowron et al.

Summary: By analyzing the color properties of Red Clump stars, we have generated extensive reddening maps of the Magellanic Clouds, providing detailed information on the reddening levels in both the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds with high resolution and accuracy. The maps also reveal the metallicity gradient in both clouds and offer an interactive interface for further exploration.
