Microbial-derived glycolipids in the sustainable formulation of biomedical and personal care products: A consideration of the process economics towards commercialization

Chukwudi O. Onwosi et al.

Summary: Biosurfactants are preferred over synthetic counterparts due to sustainable production, eco-compatibility, and low cytotoxicity. Among them, microbial-derived glycolipids are of growing interest in biomedical and cosmetic products, but face challenges in commercial competitiveness due to low product yields and high production costs. Various strategies and the importance of process economics in enhancing market value and competitiveness were discussed for commercial-scale production of MGLs in the future surfactant market.

Design, Synthetic Strategies, and Therapeutic Applications of Heterofunctional Glycodendrimers

Leila Mousavifar et al.

Summary: Glycodendrimers have attracted significant interest in biomedical applications due to the diverse glycan architectures on cell surfaces, impacting cancer cell metastasis, pathogen recognition, immune cell communications, and vaccine development. Since their inception in 1993, the synthesis of glycodendrimers has evolved into sophisticated methodologies. This review highlights common synthetic approaches and modern applications of heterofunctional glycodendrimers in nanomolecular therapeutics and synthetic vaccines.
