Modified congener analysis: Quantification of cyanide in whole blood, other body fluids, and diverse beverages

Tom R. Sundermann et al.

Summary: The newly developed analysis method for cyanide in whole blood is simple, fast, and sensitive, with a limit of detection of 50 ng/ml, good linearity, and high accuracy and precision. The method also showed potential for quantifying cyanide in other body fluids and beverages. Additionally, the method allows for the simultaneous determination of cyanide, ethanol, and congener alcohols, offering an economical use of limited sample material.

Toxic Blood Hydrogen Cyanide Concentration as a Vital Sign of a Deceased Room Fire Victim-Case Report

Daniel Tabian et al.

Summary: This study presents a case of a room fire victim in which the concentrations of HCN and COHb were evaluated to analyze their contribution to the mechanism of death. The findings suggest that toxic concentrations of HCN can be interpreted as a vital sign, indicating a contributive effect of HCN in the mechanism of death.
