Relation of diet-induced thermogenesis to brown adipose tissue activity in healthy men

Rahel Catherina Loeliger et al.

Summary: Cold-induced thermogenesis (CIT) is related to BAT activity, while diet-induced thermogenesis (DIT) is not associated with BAT activity. The increase in EE after glucose intake is not linked to stimulated BAT activity. Therefore, in humans, DIT may not be a function of BAT.

Brown adipose tissue is associated with cardiometabolic health

Tobias Becher et al.

Summary: A retrospective analysis of over 50,000 patients' F-18-FDG PET/CT scans revealed that individuals with brown adipose tissue had lower odds of cardiometabolic conditions. The presence of brown adipose tissue was independently correlated with lower odds of type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease, congestive heart failure, and hypertension. The beneficial effects of brown adipose tissue were more pronounced in individuals with overweight or obesity, suggesting a potential role in mitigating the deleterious effects of obesity.
