Evaluation of Dry Processing Technologies for Treating Low Grade Lateritic Iron Ore Fines

Summary: This study evaluated dry processing options for upgrading low-grade hematite-goethite iron ore fines, including the use of a circulating air classifier and thermal roasting followed by magnetic separation. The novel magnetizing roast, conducted under reducing conditions using CO/CO2 gas mixtures, successfully converted the initial goethite-rich ore into a magnetite-rich ore. The IRMS magnetic product obtained had a high-grade iron content of 62.0 wt%, a yield of 71.6 wt%, and around 82 wt% recovery of iron units.

Micro cold traps on the Moon

Summary: Water ice is believed to be trapped in large permanently shadowed regions in the lunar polar regions, but recent studies have revealed the presence of numerous small-scale cold traps, significantly expanding the areas where ice may accumulate. The majority of cold traps for water ice are found at latitudes greater than 80 degrees, with permanent shadows equatorward of 80 degrees typically too warm for ice accumulation to occur. This suggests that water resources at the lunar poles may be more widespread and accessible than previously thought.
