Development of microfluidic droplet shooter and its application to interface for mass spectrometry

Yutaka Kazoe et al.

Summary: This study presents a method for shooting picoliter droplets in a controlled direction using microscale gas-phase laminar flows applied to a mass spectrometry interface. A microfluidic device with a branched and stepped hydrophobic microchannel was fabricated to achieve high-efficiency sample transport to a single quadrupole mass spectrometer. By understanding and utilizing capillary force and drag force, a design guideline was established for efficient droplet shooting.
