Analysis of nonlinear vibrations of CNT-/fiberglass-reinforced multi-scale truncated conical shell segments

Seyed Sajad Mirjavadi et al.

Summary: This research examines the nonlinear free vibration behavior of truncated conical shell segments made from multi-scale epoxy/carbon nanotube/fiberglass material. A 3D Mori-Tanaka micro-mechanic method is used to define the hybrid material properties by incorporating random dispersion of carbon nanotubes and parallel alignment of glass fibers. The study focuses on the effects of fiber volume, fiber directions, semi-vertex angle, CNT weight fraction, and CNT aspect ratio on the nonlinear free vibrations of the multi-scale truncated conical shell segments.

Influence of freeze-thaw cycles on microstructure and hydraulic conductivity of saline intact loess

Jian Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of freeze-thaw cycles on the microstructure and hydraulic conductivity of saline intact loess specimens. Results suggest that the void ratio and hydraulic conductivity of saline intact loess increase after F-T cycles or at higher salt contents, consistent with changes in porosity. An empirical relationship between hydraulic conductivity and void ratio was proposed, and the calculated data aligned well with measured data, establishing the validity of the proposed equation.

Dynamic response of stiffened plate under internal blast: Experimental and numerical investigation

Ying Li et al.

Summary: This paper investigated the dynamic response of stiffened plates under internal blast loading. The study found that the deflection of plates decreased and then increased with an increase in stand-off distance. Additionally, despite increasing deformation resistance, stiffeners tended to reduce the damage tolerance of the plates.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanical behavior of micro Schwarz Primitive triply periodic minimal surfaces (P-TPMS) structures, and quantifies the effect of defects on their compression mechanical performances using various methods. Finite element models were developed to understand the impact of fabrication defects on mechanical behavior, showing that the statistical model was more accurate and efficient. Parametric study was also conducted to gain insight into the role of thickness imperfections on the mechanical performance of the shell.

Electromagnetic absorption of copper fiber oriented composite using 3D printing

Junbo Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, the impact of 3D-printed oriented copper fiber on EMW superstructures and microwave reflectivity was investigated. An equivalent waveguide attenuator model was proposed to explain the enhanced dielectric properties, space impedance matching, and multiple scattering. EMW-absorbing elements were manufactured through casting, laminar parallel printing, and cross printing, with the cross superstructure showing excellent low-frequency absorption and the parallel superstructure demonstrating desirable reflectivity at high frequencies.

Jing Zhang et al.

Summary: A wideband-tunable OEO for angular velocity measurement is presented in this article, which achieves a large-scale factor for angular velocity measurement by controlling the polarization of the optical signal; Experimental results show that the oscillating frequency shift can reach nearly 700 MHz when the system rotates, with a maximum measurement error of 0.06 rad/s.
