A strong and ductile Mg-Zn-Zr alloy thin sheet was developed in this study, with fiber basal texture and a large amount of pre-induced dislocations and nano-size precipitates observed in the grain interior. Deformation was accommodated through twinning and dislocations, leading to high yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, and fracture elongation.
In this study, a strong and ductile thin sheet of Mg-Zn-Zr alloy was developed through nano precipitates and preinduced dislocation. Our results displayed that the sheet was comprised of fiber basal texture and a small fraction of the grains having c-axes//TD of the sheet. Most specifically, profuse pre-induced dislocations and nano-size precipitates were witnessed in the grain interior. During deformation, twinning and dislocations accommodated the strain. Therefore, these factors along with nano-precipitates, texture, and pre-induced dislocations lead to the high yield strength of -290 MPa, ultimate tensile strength -366 MPa, and fracture to elongation -19%.
