Synthesis and characterization of nano TiC dispersed strengthening W alloys via freeze-drying

Weiqiang Hu et al.

Summary: By using novel freeze-drying and low temperature sintering techniques, high-performance carbide dispersion strengthened tungsten alloys were successfully synthesized with outstanding hardness and uniform distribution of TiC particles. The new technology can be applied to prepare other alloys with ultrafine grains and second phase particles.

Crack elimination and mechanical properties enhancement in additive manufactured Hastelloy X via in-situ chemical doping of Y2O3

Xiaopeng Cheng et al.

Summary: In this study, an innovative method of in-situ chemical doping of Y2O3 was used to eliminate cracks in solution strengthened superalloys or refractory metals manufactured by SLM technology. The introduction of Y2O3 significantly reduced grain and cell size, leading to increased tensile and yield strength as well as total elongation of the Hastelloy X alloy. The strategy of introducing a uniform rare earth oxide coating on metal powder surfaces provides a new perspective for manufacturing high-performance materials prone to cracking.

Modification of the interface and its influence on the performance of W-6 wt% TiC composite

Lingqun Li et al.

Summary: This study successfully fabricated a tungsten-6wt% TiC composite with fine grain size, and analyzed its microstructure using techniques such as transmission electron microscopy, scanning transmission electron microscopy, and electron backscatter diffraction. The research shows that a Ti-concentration zone existed in the TiC phase due to high defect density induced by high-energy milling in the composite.

The synthesis of TiC dispersed strengthened Mo alloy by freeze-drying technology and subsequent low temperature sintering

Weiqiang Hu et al.

Summary: The TiC dispersed strengthened Mo alloys were synthesized using novel freeze-drying technology, resulting in ultrafine grain size, high density, and high hardness. The freeze-drying technology effectively suppressed the agglomeration and growth of second phase particles in Mo-TiC alloys. A theory about purification and strengthening was proposed, where TiC can purify the Mo matrix and form stable phase interfaces with Mo to enhance material strength.

Enhanced mechanical properties in oxide-dispersion-strengthened alloys achieved via interface segregation of cation dopants

Zhi Dong et al.

Summary: A new type of cation-doped W-Y2O3 alloy has been successfully developed, showing significant refinement and dispersion effects on oxide particles, while also greatly enhancing the strength and ductility of the alloy. The segregation of cation dopants at the W/Y2O3 interface plays a key role in these effects, impacting the chemical bonding and influencing the rate-limiting mechanism for W grain growth. This cation-doping approach has the potential to be applied to other ODS alloys for improving their mechanical properties.
