The thermal compression behavior and microstructural evolution of Ti-Zr alloys play a crucial role in determining their properties, with deformation temperature and beta phase content significantly affecting peak stress, and grain size of a phase increasing with deformation temperature. Dynamic recovery effects result in a higher proportion of low angle grain boundaries in the beta phase compared to high angle grain boundaries.
Recently, titanium-zirconium (Ti-Zr) alloys have garnered significant research attention due to their excellent properties. Herein, the thermal compression behavior and microstructural evolution of Ti-30Zr-5Al-3V (wt%, Ti-30-5-3) alloys in lower alpha + beta region are studied using EBSD and TEM methods. The peak stress, compressed at 660 degrees C, is found to be much higher than the sample compressed at 680 degrees C due to deformation localization and lower content of beta phase. Moreover, the grain size of a phase increases monotonously with the increase in deformation temperature. Furthermore, the fractions of low angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) were much higher than high angle grain boundaries (HAGBs) in beta phase due to the effect of dynamic recovery (DRV). Overall, these findings provide useful insights into the thermal deformation process of Ti-Zr alloys. (C) 2021 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
