Direct and indirect decomposition of retained austenite in continuously cooled bainitic steels: Influence of vanadium

Summary: This study investigates the direct and indirect decomposition of retained austenite during tempering in a 0.2C wt% steel with a carbide-free bainitic microstructure. Comparisons are made between two nearly identical steels, one with vanadium and one without, to discuss the influence of vanadium on both mechanisms. The results suggest that vanadium has an impact on the decomposition of retained austenite and hardness changes during tempering.
