A three-mode self-referenced optical thermometry based on up-conversion luminescence of Ca2MgWO6:Er3+,Yb3+phosphors

YunCheng Jiang et al.

Summary: A series of Ca2MgWO6:xEr3+, yYb3+ phosphor samples were synthesized through high temperature solid-state reaction method for optical thermometry. These samples showed intense up-conversion luminescence when excited by 980 nm laser, with enhanced emissions by addition of Yb3+ ions. The phosphors demonstrated a dual-mode temperature sensor and superior thermal stability, indicating potential applications for self-referenced optical thermometry.

Multiparametric luminescence thermometry from Dy3+, Cr3+ double activated YAG

Jovana Perisa et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the multiparametric luminescence thermometry using Dy3+, Cr3+ double activated YAG. By analyzing the structure and emission spectra of the phosphors, changes in luminescence intensity at different temperatures were observed, providing a good foundation for temperature readings. By testing the luminescence intensity ratios using different methods, the relative sensitivities of temperature were determined.

Multimode luminescence thermometry based on emission and excitation spectra

Ilya E. Kolesnikov et al.

Summary: Luminescence thermometers are widely used for contactless and noninvasive temperature sensing, with most known sensors using a single parameter to define temperature. YVO4:Er3+ 0.1 at.% sample was reported as a thermal sensor in the 299-466 K range, utilizing multiple sensing techniques such as luminescence intensity ratio and spectral line position. Sub-degree temperature resolution was provided by all studied sensing methods.

Luminescence interference-free lifetime nanothermometry pinpoints in vivo temperature

Mengya Kong et al.

Summary: Luminescence lifetime-based nanothermometry enables accurate temperature measurement in living animals through temporal calibration and polymer encapsulation. Highly condensed Nd-Yb ions in core-shell nanocrystals provide good temperature sensitivity and accuracy in biological fluids. Combining with anti-interference lifetime thermometry could further enhance temperature measurement in biological and preclinical studies.

Lanthanide doped luminescence nanothermometers in the biological windows: strategies and applications

Albenc Nexha et al.

Summary: The development of lanthanide-doped non-contact luminescent nanothermometers has led to their use as accurate, efficient and fast diagnostic tools, replacing conventional contact thermal probes, due to their versatility, stability and narrow emission band profiles. These nanothermometers utilize lanthanide-doped materials as temperature nanosensors, excited by UV, visible or NIR light, emitting in the I-BW, II-BW, III-BW and IV-BW regions, showing advantages such as reduced phototoxicity and photobleaching, improved image contrast and deeper tissue penetration. Factors affecting the thermal sensitivity and temperature resolution of lanthanide ion-doped nanomaterials in biomedical applications are summarized, along with strategies to boost their sensing properties in each biological window.
