Tunable and ordered porous carbons with folding-like nanoscale framework via interdigitation and twisting

Summary: This paper reports the hydrothermal synthesis of ordered porous carbonaceous materials derived from sugar, showing twisted lamellae-like nanostructural motifs with a repeating distance of about 20 nm. The synchrotron X-ray scattering study reveals a threefold symmetry in the nanostructural configuration, with interpenetrating layers stabilized by a knot-like motif locally. This novel porous carbonaceous framework offers potential features like increased stability, chiral selectivity, and mechanical flexibility, which can be explored for advancements in electrochemistry and separation and catalysis sciences.
