Green synthesis of network nanostructured calcium alginate hydrogel and its removal performance of Cd2+ and Cu2+ ions

Xiaojun Tao et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple and green method for synthesizing three-dimensional network nanostructured sodium alginate hydrogel was presented, which could be easily cross-linked with Ca2+ ions to prepare calcium alginate hydrogel with the same morphology and structure. The NNCA hydrogel exhibited high removal efficiency, rapid adsorption rate, and required a small amount of absorbent. Adsorption behavior of NNCA hydrogel followed the Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetics model, with diffusion-controlled process and bidentate bridging/bidentate chelating coordination modes as the adsorption mechanism.

A Universal Strategy for the Preparation of Dual Superlyophobic Surfaces in Oil-Water Systems

Mingming Wu et al.

Summary: A universal strategy was proposed to prepare dual superlyophobic surfaces in oil-water systems by delicately controlling surface chemistry, achieving the transformation from UWSOB to UOSHB. The mass ratios of superhydrophobic counterparts in the resulting mixed coatings were determined to be 0.3, 0.4, and 0.2 for APT, TiO2, and loess, respectively. The prepared superlyophobic separation mesh showed significant application potential in oil-water separation and other interfacial chemistry applications.
