HIPEs to PolyHIPEs

Summary: This article provides a comprehensive overview of structural transitions during polymerization of high internal phase emulsions, focusing on how the emulsification process and stability of HIPEs affect the pore size of polyHIPEs, as well as the control of pore throat size by interdroplet interaction and interfacial film strength. The processing and molding of polyHIPEs are evaluated from rheological and chemorheological behaviors, discussing the porogen effect of surfactants, polymerization-induced phase separation, and crystallization-induced heterogeneity in polymer phase of polyHIPEs.
