Trajectories of Late-Life Disability Vary by the Condition Leading to Death

Erwin Stolz et al.

Summary: This study found that in the late stages of life, individuals had distinct disability trajectories depending on the condition leading to death, with cancer patients showing gradual increase followed by steep decline, while those with organ failure, frailty, and severe dementia had slower and less defined patterns of disability increase. The condition leading to death added significant explanatory value to late-life disability trajectories, showcasing the importance of considering this factor in understanding individual disability progression.

Summary: The relationship between hypertension and cognition in later life is controversial, and the association of hypertension with cognitive performance may be influenced by frailty status among older adults. Frailty status may modify the association of hypertension with cognitive performance in those aged 65 years and older.
