Opium Poppy Mosaic Virus Has an Xrn-Resistant, Translated Subgenomic RNA and a BTE 3′ CITE

Muhammad Ilyas et al.

Summary: Opium poppy mosaic virus (OPMV) is a umbravirus with a plus-sense genomic RNA and two subgenomic RNAs, one of which codes for a unique protein. The 3' untranslated region of OPMV contains two 3' CITEs and a BTE, with the BTE linking to the 5' end via RNA-RNA interaction. Analysis of 14 BTEs revealed additional conserved sequences and features beyond the previously identified 17-nt signature sequence.

Targeting of viral RNAs by Upf1-mediated RNA decay pathways

Jared P. May et al.

Summary: Viral RNAs are susceptible to co-translational RNA decay pathways mediated by the RNA helicase Upf1, but viruses have evolved means to escape decay. Understanding how viruses are subjected to and circumvent NMD pathways can shed light on the restriction of virus replication.
