Effect of lignite activated coke packing on power generation and phenol degradation in microbial fuel cell treating high strength phenolic wastewater

Jing Shen et al.

Summary: This study successfully alleviated the inhibition of high concentration phenol on MFC by incorporating lignite activated coke (LAC), resulting in enhanced power generation and phenol degradation efficiency. High-throughput sequencing analysis indicated that Pseudomonas, Desulfuromonas, and Hydrogenophaga might play important roles in phenol degradation and power generation in LAC-MFC. The use of LAC packing is a promising technology for high strength phenolic wastewater treatment due to its effectiveness in relieving the toxic effects of phenol.

Highly effective and fast removal of Congo red from wastewater with metal-organic framework Fe-MIL-88NH2

Qiuping Fu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the applicability of using metal organic framework Fe-MIL-88NH(2) for the adsorption and removal of the toxic organic dye Congo red (CR) from industrial wastewater. The Tempkin adsorption isotherm model was found to be most suitable for describing the adsorption behavior of CR on Fe-MIL-88NH(2).

Predicting metal-organic frameworks as catalysts to fix carbon dioxide to cyclic carbonate by machine learning

Shuyuan Li et al.

Summary: The process of discovering and developing new materials requires considerable effort, time, and expense, and machine learning algorithms can provide quick and accurate methods for screening new materials. Extracting features of MOFs as a catalyst and training classifiers with various ML algorithms can predict catalytic performance and explore potential MOFs. Using ML methods can speed up material screening and is promising for many materials science projects.

Preferential and efficient degradation of phenolic pollutants with cooperative hydrogen-bond interactions in photocatalytic process

Jinxing Zhang et al.

Summary: Phenolic pollutants can be efficiently oxidized in photocatalytic process by using boron-doped TiO2, which plays a key role in enhancing photocatalytic activity through the formation of abundant Ti3+ species. The degradation rate constant of boron-doped TiO2 for catechol was significantly higher compared to biodegradation and ozonation methods. This preferential removal mechanism of phenolic pollutants could lead to the development of new oxidation technologies for selectively removing highly toxic pollutants.

Treatment of phenol wastewater using nitrogen-doped magnetic mesoporous hollow carbon

Hao Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that the non-covalent interactions between NMMHC and phenol molecules are van der Waals interactions, and nitrogen-containing groups increase the phenol adsorption capacity by enhancing such interactions. The pi-pi interactions between the nitrogen groups and phenol molecules also enhanced the adsorption energy.
