Interface Amorphization of Two-Dimensional Black Phosphorus upon Treatment with Diazonium Salts

Aleksandra Mitrovic et al.

Summary: In this study, the structural evolution of 2D black phosphorus upon the addition of electrophilic diazonium salts was investigated, revealing the absence of covalent functionalization in both neutral and reductive routes, with an unexpected interface conversion of BP to red phosphorus observed in the latter case. The potential radical mechanism underlying this reaction was explored using various analytical techniques.

Surface Functionalization of Black Phosphorus with Nitrenes: Identification of P=N Bonds by Using Isotopic Labeling

Kendahl L. Walz Mitra et al.

Summary: Surface functionalization of few-layer black phosphorus nanosheets using photolytically generated nitrenes was introduced in this study. A variety of characterization techniques were employed to investigate the chemical structure of the modified nanosheets, conclusively identifying the presence of iminophosphorane units on the nanosheet surface.

Black phosphorus hybridizing produces electron-deficient active sites on palladium nanoparticles for catalysis

Zuoliang He et al.

Summary: The electronic structure of supported metal catalysts plays a crucial role in affecting molecule adsorption energy and reaction energy barriers, therefore influencing the overall catalytic activity. By preparing palladium nanoparticles supported on few-layer black phosphorus as a catalyst, the electron-deficient structure of palladium nanoparticles induced by black phosphorus modification was demonstrated, leading to enhanced catalytic activity. Density functional theory calculations revealed that the high activity of the catalyst is correlated with the electron-deficient Pd atoms, which lower reactant adsorption energy and promote product desorption.

Recent advances in 2D black phosphorus based materials for gas sensing applications

Aaryashree et al.

Summary: This review provides a concise overview of the recent trends in gas sensing applications of two-dimensional black phosphorous (2D BP), including its important properties, synthesis methods, achievements in gas sensing, and future research directions. The majority of gas sensing studies of BP are simulation-based due to its unstable nature, highlighting the need for optimized tuning of properties for stable gas sensing devices.
