Organoiodine-Catalyzed Enantioselective Intermolecular Oxyamination of Alkenes

Chisato Wata et al.

Summary: Metal-free, catalytic enantioselective intermolecular oxyamination of alkenes is achieved using organoiodine(I/III) chemistry. The reaction shows high enantioselectivity and electronically controlled regioselectivity with aryl- and alkyl-substituted alkenes. Key to the success is the discovery of N-(fluorosulfonyl) carbamate as a bifunctional N,O-nucleophile, allowing easy deprotection to yield free amino alcohols without loss of enantioselectivity.

A Unified Strategy for the Asymmetric Synthesis of Highly Substituted 1,2-Amino Alcohols Leading to Highly Substituted Bisoxazoline Ligands

Bijay Shrestha et al.

Summary: A general procedure for asymmetric synthesis of highly substituted 1,2-amino alcohols has been described, utilizing organometallic additions as the key step. Diastereoselectivity in these reactions significantly depends on the nucleophile and electrophile involved. The resulting amino alcohols are further used to synthesize stereochemically diverse polysubstituted 2,2'-methylene(bisoxazoline) ligands in high yields.

Tuning Orbital Symmetry of Iridium Nitrenoid Enables Catalytic Diastereo- and Enantioselective Alkene Difunctionalizations

Suhyeon Kim et al.

Summary: The article discusses the use of the Cp*Ir(kappa(2)-LX) system as a catalyst for alkene difunctionalization via a nitrenoid-mediated pathway, with a focus on tuning the orbital symmetry of key intermediates to improve catalytic activity. Through systematic engineering, a new catalyst system capable of stepwise nitrenoid transfer was developed, allowing for diastereoselective production of difunctionalized lactams with various nucleophiles. This mechanistic platform also enabled the development of asymmetric methods for introducing two-point chirality in (oxyallcyl)lactam products with excellent enantioselectivity.

Chiral Hypervalent Iodine Catalysis Enables an Unusual Regiodivergent Intermolecular Olefin Aminooxygenation

Fan Wu et al.

Summary: A novel iodide-catalyzed intermolecular aminooxygenation strategy is described, utilizing amide as the O- and N-source for regiocontrol. It was found that simple additives can selectively introduce regiodivergent oxyamination processes for electronically activated alkenes while being regio-complementary for unactivated alkenes. Preliminary data also suggests that this regiocontrol strategy can be applied in asymmetric processes using chiral hypervalent iodine catalysis.
