Gradient descent dynamics in the mixed p-spin spherical model: finite-size simulations and comparison with mean-field integration

Giampaolo Folena et al.

Summary: Numerical simulations of a long-range spherical spin glass with two and three body interaction terms show that in very large systems, the dynamics perfectly agrees with the integration of the mean-field dynamical equations. The energy of the inherent structures in the liquid phase depends on an onset initial temperature, which contrasts with that of pure models. These results strengthen the analogy between mean-field spin glass models and supercooled liquids.

Tracy-Widom Distributions for the Gaussian Orthogonal and Symplectic Ensembles Revisited: A Skew-Orthogonal Polynomials Approach

Anthony Mays et al.

Summary: The distribution of the largest eigenvalue in the Pfaffian classical ensembles of random matrix theory (GOE and GSE) was studied using semi-classical skew-orthogonal polynomials, leading to expressions for the cumulative distribution functions and an alternative derivation of Tracy-Widom distributions for GOE and GSE through asymptotic analysis of these polynomials. It involved the construction of overlapping Pfaffian or compound Pfaffian identities and relied on a certain Pfaffian identity, with proof employing the characterization of Pfaffians in terms of perfect matchings and link diagrams.

Diffusions interacting through a random matrix: universality via stochastic Taylor expansion

Amir Dembo et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the trajectories of averaged observables of a system with random coefficients are universal and only depend on the first and second moments of the distribution J. A general combinatorial approach, combining stochastic Taylor expansion with moment matching-type argument, is used to prove universality for dynamical systems with random coefficients. Concrete scenarios where the results imply universality include aging in the spherical SK spin glass, Langevin dynamics and gradient flows for symmetric and asymmetric Hopfield networks.

Revisiting the concept of activation in supercooled liquids

Marco Baity-Jesi et al.

Summary: Through analyzing the dynamics of a paradigmatic glass former, it was found that glassiness onset is connected to the landscape, metabasin waiting time distributions are broad, and activation is primarily driven by entropy rather than energy.
