Recent insights into microalgae-assisted microbial fuel cells for generating sustainable bioelectricity

Summary: The usage of microbial fuel cells (MFC) for power generation from renewable biomass sources and the efficient utilization of chemical energy stored in microalgae biomass for the production of biofuels and other bioproducts have attracted significant attention. Incorporating microalgae into MFC can enhance efficiency and provide a cost-effective renewable approach for electricity generation. While microalgae-assisted MFCs (MA-MFCs) show promise in sustainability, further research is needed to optimize performance and achieve large-scale application.

Simultaneously enhancing degradation of refractory organics and achieving nitrogen removal by coupling denitrifying biocathode with MnOx/Ti anode

Summary: By coupling the denitrifying biocathode and MnOx/Ti anode, this study successfully removed both carbon and nitrogen pollutants from refractory organic wastewater. The denitrifying biocathode-electrocatalytic reactor (DBECR) showed an efficient removal of NO3--N, with a strong correlation between NO3--N removal and charges/current flowing through the circuit. Additionally, DBECR significantly enhanced the degradation of refractory organic carbon, demonstrating its potential for wastewater treatment.
