Three different CTS-ZrO2 composites were prepared and used as bio-sorbents for Cs (I) and Co (II) metal ions, with adsorption equilibrium reached after 60 mins. Optimum pH values were found to be 9 for Cs (I) and 6 for Co (II). Kinetic modeling revealed a pseudo 2nd order adsorption reaction.
Three different Chitosan/ZrO2 (CTS-ZrO2) composites are prepared by sol-gel then, used as bio-sorbent for Cs (I) and Co (II) metal ions from aqueous solution in this study. Characterization of (CTS-ZrO2) composites is done through different analytical techniques. Optimizations of the adsorption affecting factors are explored via batch mode. The adsorption equilibrium attained after 60 min for initial metal ion concentration is 100 mgL(-1) and at optimum pH 9 and 6 for Cs (I) and Co (II), respectively. Kinetic modelling is applied and the adsorption reaction followed pseudo 2(nd) order. The adsorption capacity for Cs (I) at pH 9 and 25(o)C is 124.6 mgg(-1) and for Co (II) at pH 6 and 25(o)C is 111.1 mgg(-1). The thermodynamic parameters showed the adsorption reaction is spontaneous and endothermic.
