Nanometric skyrmion lattice from anisotropic exchange interactions in a centrosymmetric host

Max Hirschberger et al.

Summary: Skyrmion formation in centrosymmetric magnets without Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions was predicted using numerical techniques, and a Hamiltonian with anisotropic exchange couplings, local ion anisotropy, and four-spin interactions was identified for this class of compounds. In the representative system Gd3Ru4Al12, anisotropic exchange drives a delicate balance between helical, skyrmion lattice (SkL), and transverse conical (cycloidal) orders. The model is constrained by the experimental collapse of the SkL with a small in-plane magnetic field, with the expectation that spins in the zero-field helical state can be easily rotated by a tilted magnetic field or applied current.

Antiferromagnetic skyrmion crystals in the Rashba Hund's insulator on triangular lattice

Arnob Mukherjee et al.

Summary: In this study, theoretical and computational analysis of a spin-orbit coupled correlated Hund's insulator magnet on a triangular lattice reveals the stabilization of two distinct antiferromagnetic skyrmion crystal (AF-SkX) states at low temperatures in the presence of an external magnetic field. These AF-SkX phases are understood to originate from a classical spin liquid state that exists at low but finite temperatures.

Spin-texture-driven electrical transport in multi-Q antiferromagnets

Soonbeom Seo et al.

Summary: Unusual magnetic textures can be stabilized in f-electron materials due to competing magnetic interactions, complex Fermi surfaces, and crystalline anisotropy. Through experimental and computational studies of the antiferromagnet CeAuSb2, researchers found that the enhanced magnetoresistance in the double-Q phase is attributed to the localization of electronic wave functions. The magnetic, electronic, and structural properties in f-electron systems are intrinsically linked, showing complex characteristics.

Skyrmion crystals in centrosymmetric itinerant magnets without horizontal mirror plane

Ryota Yambe et al.

Summary: This study investigates a new stabilization mechanism of a skyrmion crystal in a centrosymmetric itinerant magnets with magnetic anisotropy, revealing that the anisotropic RKKY interaction leads to distinct skyrmion crystals with different skyrmion numbers. The study also clarifies that a phase arising from the multiple-Q spin density waves serves as a control parameter for a field-induced topological phase transition between the skyrmion crystals, providing insights for understanding and exploring further skyrmion-hosting materials in trigonal itinerant magnets.

Magnetic Skyrmion Materials

Yoshinori Tokura et al.

Summary: The concept of Skyrmion, originally proposed in particle physics, has found a fertile field for its applicability in magnetic skyrmions realized in helimagnetic materials. These magnetic topological defects show promising properties for future application in spintronics, with extraordinary metastability and low electric current excitation. The review also covers the emergence of other magnetic topological defects and their interplay with skyrmions.
