Electron correlation effects on exchange interactions and spin excitations in 2D van der Waals materials

Liqin Ke et al.

Summary: This study investigates the nature of magnetic interactions and electron-correlation effects in 2D van der Waals materials using CrI3 as a model system. The calculated electronic structure, including nonlocal electron correlations, provides insights into spin excitations and reveals the critical role of electron correlations in spin ordering and dynamics in magnetic van der Waals materials. Additionally, a novel correlation-enhanced interlayer super-superexchange mechanism is identified, offering a different perspective on the gap-opening mechanism in CrI3.

Self-consistently renormalized spin-wave theory of layered ferromagnets on the honeycomb lattice

V. V. Mkhitaryan et al.

Summary: A self-consistently renormalized spin-wave theory has been developed for two-dimensional chromium magnets, considering perpendicular easy-axis anisotropy and physical differences between layers, enabling the study of various magnetic phenomena in systems with magnetically inequivalent sublattices. The theory predicts a strong dimensionality effect in reducing the ordering temperature and increasing sensitivity to anisotropy as dimensionality decreases.

Two-dimensional ferromagnetic spin-orbital excitations in honeycomb VI3

H. Lane et al.

Summary: VI3 is a ferromagnet with planar honeycomb sheets of bonded V3+ ions held together by van der Waals forces. Neutron spectroscopy is applied to measure two-dimensional magnetic excitations in the ferromagnetic phase. The study reveals the mechanism of magnetic anisotropy in VI3, providing insights into its spatially long-ranged two-dimensional ferromagnetism.

Pressure-induced large increase of Curie temperature of the van der Waals ferromagnet VI3

J. Valenta et al.

Summary: The evolution of magnetism in single crystals of VI3 under external pressure was studied, showing four magnetic phase transitions and the effects of pressure on magnetic parameters. The results indicate that pressure can affect magnetic behavior, with further investigation on the potential reduction of magnetic moment under pressure.
