This paper introduces a shield pattern generated by the point shifting method, which is extended to reduce scattering for apertures and minimize leakage of surface waves. The smooth impedance transition between high and low impedances on the shield patterns enables reduced scattering, which was confirmed through simulations and measurements.
Controlling surface waves is critical to prevent damage to sensitive spots on the surface or to minimize interference with other systems. In this paper, a shield pattern generated by the point shifting method is introduced and extended to the use of scattering reduction schemes for apertures. Impedance surfaces for the shield patterns have smooth impedance transition between high and low impedances, which enable reduced scattering. The shield pattern is also used to minimize leakage of the surface waves from the aperture. The scattering reduction scheme for apertures was simulated and verified by the measurements as well.
