Modulation of Nanoparticle Diffusion by Surface Ligand Length and Charge: Analysis with Molecular Dynamics Simulations

Anthony Y. Cui et al.

Summary: The experimental measurement of nanoparticle size is influenced by surface ligands. The impact of charge and flexibility on the diffusion of gold nanoparticles is limited, with estimated differences in nanoparticle size potentially due to aggregation under solution conditions.

Dielectric friction, violation of the Stokes-Einstein-Debye relation, and non-Gaussian transport dynamics of dipolar solutes in water

Tuhin Samanta et al.

Summary: The phenomenon of dielectric friction predicts a slowdown in the diffusion of a dipolar tracer in a polar medium due to delayed response of the medium polarization. Numerical simulations show that the rotational time of the solute increases linearly with its squared dipole moment, affecting the relaxation time of the electric field of the medium. The breakdown of additivity between friction produced by van der Waals and electrostatic forces and torques leads to a failure of classical theories in describing the slowing down of rotational diffusion.
