Sensitive and Repeatable Photoinduced Luminescent Radicals from A Simple Organic Crystal

Yingxiao Mu et al.

Summary: Photoinduced organic radicals play a crucial role in various chemical and physical processes, however, the luminescent properties of these radicals are rarely reported. A unique luminescent radical has been discovered in a simple organic crystal, generated through gentle light irradiation, showcasing rapid and reversible generation due to the twist and asymmetric conformation of the isolated molecules with weak intermolecular interactions. Additionally, a dual-channel photosensitive device with rapid response and repeatability can be fabricated based on thin film of this organic crystal, enabling photoswitching on luminescence and conducting properties.

Competition between chiral solvents and chiral monomers in the helical bias of supramolecular polymers

Marcin L. Sleczkowski et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the role of chiral solvents and chiral monomers in supramolecular polymerizations, revealing competition-induced diastereomeric differences and the ability of chiral solvents to influence the helicity of copolymers. The observed differences between enantiomers are attributed to the additive entropic effects of stereocentres in both the monomer and the solvent. The results emphasize the importance of cumulative solvation effects in supramolecular polymerizations.

Highly tunable aggregate-induced phosphorescence properties in persulfurated arenes

Yi Xing et al.

Summary: Persulfurated arenes, as a special type of compound, have long been underestimated in terms of their luminescent properties, but recent studies have revealed more about their aggregate-induced phosphorescence (AIP) feature. There is now a growing trend of literature dedicated to exploring the complex emissive properties of these compounds.

Nanoscale Metal-Organic Layer Isolates Phthalocyanines for Efficient Mitochondria-Targeted Photodynamic Therapy

Geoffrey T. Nash et al.

Summary: A new nanoscale metal-organic layer assembly, ZnOPPc@nMOL, has been designed for photodynamic therapy (PDT), which shows exceptional efficacy in inhibiting tumor growth and curing colon cancer in mouse models. The assembly efficiently sensitizes the formation of singlet oxygen by preventing aggregation-induced self-quenching of ZnOPPc excited states. With intrinsic mitochondria-targeting capability, ZnOPPc@nMOL displays strong potential for clinical applications in PDT.

Manipulating crystals through photoexcitation-induced molecular realignment

Shen Shen et al.

Summary: The paper proposes a new non-equilibrium strategy of photoexcitation-induced molecular realignment to manipulate crystal growth and transformation, allowing dynamic changes in molecular conformation under continuous photoirradiation while maintaining molecular structure intact. This strategy enables crystal photomanipulation from solution growth to doped films with phototuning of optical behaviors, providing a paradigm for controlling molecular ordering through light.
