Not just honeybees: predatory habits of Vespa velutina (Hymenoptera: Vespidae) in France

Quentin Rome et al.

Summary: The predatory invasive species Vespa velutina is a generalist opportunist predator, mainly preying on locally abundant prey such as honeybees. The prey spectrum is influenced by the nest surroundings, with urban nests preying more on honeybees and forest nests preying more on social wasps. Each nest is estimated to consume a significant amount of insect biomass in one season.
