The predicted shapes of voids and Xe bubbles in UO2

C. O. T. Galvin et al.

Summary: This study used molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations to predict the lowest energy shapes for voids and bubbles in UO2. It was found that low energy faceted voids are slightly more energetically favourable than spherical voids, and as Xe is added and bubble pressure increases, the faceted morphology becomes even more favourable than the spherical shape.

Evolution of pressurized xenon bubble and response of uranium dioxide matrix: A molecular dynamics study

L. Yang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the microstructure evolution of uranium dioxide (UO2) due to xenon (Xe) accumulation through the growth of highly pressurized Xe bubbles using molecular dynamics simulations. Two stages characterized by bubble pressure are identified, with the evolution depending on the interatomic potentials and causing dislocations, phase transitions, and interfaces in UO2.

Summary: This study compares the performance of molecular dynamics calculations using LAMMPS, GROMACS, and OpenMM MD packages on different GPU backends. It shows that porting the CUDA backend of LAMMPS to ROCm HIP can provide considerable benefits for AMD GPUs compared to the OpenCL backend.

Small uranium and oxygen interstitial clusters in UO2: An empirical potential study

X-Y Liu et al.

Summary: The energetics and kinetics of small uranium interstitial clusters in UO2 were studied using two interatomic potentials, revealing differences in migration mechanisms and mobility based on geometric structures of the clusters. Rapid migration of interstitials and clusters is crucial for the irradiation response of UO2 and is consistent with low migration barriers observed in historical experiments.
