Rheology and stability of nanoparticle-stabilized CO2 foam under reservoir conditions

Chunkai Fu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the rheology and stability of nanoparticle-stabilized CO2 foams under high temperature and high pressure reservoir conditions. The results showed that various parameters such as nanoparticle concentration, salinity, foam quality, shear rate, and temperature had significant impacts on foam apparent viscosity and stability. Understanding these effects can provide guidelines for designing foam fracturing systems for field applications.

Viscosity-driven stabilization of CO2-in-brine foams using mixtures of cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine and sodium dodecyl sulfate

E. J. Creatto et al.

Summary: Foam stability is crucial for the success of foam-field applications. This study demonstrated that a mixture of cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine and sodium dodecyl sulfate can significantly improve the stability of CO2-in-brine foams, reducing drainage and coarsening. The synergy exhibited by the surfactant mixtures not only enhanced the viscosity-driven stabilization of the foams, but also allowed for the retention of large amounts of CO2 inside the foam.

Surface adsorption and foam performance of sodium perfluoroalkyl polyoxyethylene ether sulfate in ethanol-water mixed system

Bo Ning et al.

Summary: In this study, a new fluorocarbon surfactant FES-Na was synthesized and its interface adsorption behavior and foam performance in 50% ethanol were studied. The mechanism of foam stability follows the classic double-layer film theory. The results demonstrate that FES-Na can generate stable foam in 50% ethanol, making it an alternative foaming agent in the ethanol-water system.

Summary: The study simulated LTG flooding mechanism in a borosilicate waterwet micromodel, finding that presence of foam improved oil displacement and recovery rate. Completely miscible flooding was observed in equilibrated Type III microemulsion, while oil-in-water macroemulsions were observed in Type I systems.

Visualization study of polymer enhanced foam (PEF) flooding for recovery of waterflood residual oil: Effect of cross flow

Farshad Rezaeiakmal et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that in heterogeneous reservoirs, polymer enhanced foam (PEF) flooding is more effective in improving oil recovery compared to conventional foam, providing a higher ultimate oil recovery rate. PEF exhibits better stability and performance through the cross-flow mechanism especially at higher permeability contrasts in porous media.
