Exploration of Sunflower Oil As a Renewable Biomass Source to Develop Scalable and Highly Effective Corrosion Inhibitors in a 15% HCl Medium at High Temperatures

Abdolreza Farhadian et al.

Summary: This study investigates the feasibility of using sunflower oil to develop highly effective inhibitors for mild steel corrosion in 15% HCl medium. The results show that the sunflower-oil-based corrosion inhibitor (SFOCI) has significant anticorrosion properties, with inhibition efficiencies of 98% and 93% at temperatures of 60 and 80 degrees Celsius, respectively. The mechanism of inhibition is mixed-type with mainly chemisorption onto the surface of mild steel. The study suggests a potential new direction for designing eco-friendly vegetable-oil-based corrosion inhibitors for highly corrosive solutions at high temperatures.

Chemically modified guar gum and ethyl acrylate composite as a new corrosion inhibitor for reduction in hydrogen evolution and tubular steel corrosion protection in acidic environment

Ambrish Singh et al.

Summary: The paper discusses the synthesis of Guar gum and ethyl acrylate (GG-EEA) composite as a corrosion inhibitor for P110 steel in 15% HCl. The research findings indicate that GG-EEA composite has a higher corrosion inhibition performance compared to GG alone.

Experimental and theoretical (DFT & MC) studies for the adsorption of the synthesized Gemini cationic surfactant based on hydrazide moiety as X-65 steel acid corrosion inhibitor

N. M. El Basiony et al.

Summary: The study reported the synthesis of a new cationic Gemini surfactant (GI-surfactant) and its inhibitory effect on X-65 steel corrosion. Results showed that GI-surfactant had a mixed-type inhibitory effect, with higher efficiency at higher concentrations but decreased at elevated temperatures. Adsorption phenomena and the Freundlich isotherm model were found to be responsible for the inhibition action of GI-surfactant, which was supported by Monte Carlo simulation and X-ray diffraction analysis.

Insight into anti-corrosion nature of Betel leaves water extracts as the novel and eco-friendly inhibitors

Bochuan Tan et al.

Summary: This study utilized a simple and low-cost water extraction method to obtain Betel leaves extracts (BLE), which were investigated as an environmentally-friendly inhibitor. Experimental results showed that BLE exhibited good anti-corrosion properties for Q235 steel and high efficiency under certain conditions. Morphological analysis through SEM and AFM supported the data from electrochemical experiments.

(E)-2-styryl-1H-benzo[d]imidazole as novel green corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel: Experimental and computational approach

Vandana Srivastava et al.

Summary: The new green corrosion inhibitor STBim was synthesized in a single step reaction and showed high efficiency in inhibiting carbon steel corrosion in 15% HCl. Adsorption followed Langmuir isotherm, impedance measurements supported improved capacitive behavior, and potentiodynamic polarization studies revealed a mixed behavior with cathodic predominance. Computational studies showed that the inhibitor adsorbed mainly in the protonated form, resulting in a shift in the steel's work function.

Natural nutmeg oil as a green corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in 1.0 M HCl solution: Chemical, electrochemical, and computational methods

M. Abdallah et al.

Summary: The study confirmed that nutmeg oil is an effective inhibitor for the corrosion of CSL-52 in hydrochloric acid solution, with increasing inhibition efficacy observed with higher nutmeg oil concentration and lower temperature. Electrochemical and computational studies showed that nutmeg oil acted as a mixed inhibitor and played a significant role in the corrosion inhibition process. This research also aimed to predict the inhibitory potency of the four molecular constituents of nutmeg oil through computational work.

Development of environmentally benign corrosion inhibitors for organic acid environments for oil-gas industry

M. A. Quraishi et al.

Summary: Organic acids are used in the oil and gas industry as scale dissolvers, with corrosive inhibitors introduced to protect metal surfaces. Traditional inhibitor chemistries are toxic, difficult to synthesize, and expensive, leading to the development of cost-effective and environmentally safer alternatives in recent years.
