Investigating the Microstructure, Hardness and Tensile Behavior of Magnesium AZ80 Alloy and AZ80/SiC Nanocomposite Manufactured Through Dual Equal Channel Lateral Extrusion (DECLE)

Summary: This study demonstrates that the microstructure and mechanical properties of AZ80 magnesium alloy can be significantly improved by adding nanoparticles and increasing the number of DECLE passes. The grain size decreases significantly with the increase in pass numbers, leading to improved hardness and tensile strength.

Consolidation of Pure Magnesium Powder by Equal-Channel Angular Pressing with Back Pressure

Summary: Pure Mg particles were consolidated using ECAP with back pressure at 423 K, resulting in fully dense bulk Mg with refined grains below 2 μm, leading to enhanced yield strength and ductility. The development of intense texture during ECAP softened the texture, while breaking the oxide layer on the surface of Mg particles into nano-sized pieces provided dispersion strengthening.
