References Values for Left Atrial Volumes, Emptying Fractions, Strains, and Strain Rates and Their Determinants by Age, Gender, and Ethnicity: The Multiethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA)

Henrique Doria de Vasconcellos et al.

Summary: This study quantified and provided reference ranges for Left Atrial (LA) structure and function using feature tracking cine cardiac magnetic resonance in 2526 participants. Results showed that younger individuals had smaller LA volumes and better LA function compared to their older counterparts, similar findings were observed in Chinese-Americans as compared to Whites.

Reference Values for Left Atrial Strain and Strain Rate Based on a Large Sample of Healthy Chinese Adults: An MR-Feature Tracking Study

Yiyuan Gao et al.

Summary: This study established age- and sex-specific reference values for left atrial (LA) strain and strain rate (SR) based on a large sample of healthy Chinese adults using magnetic resonance-feature tracking (MR-FT). Results showed that women had significantly higher LA strain and SR compared to men, and both parameters decreased with aging.

Reproducibility of left atrial function using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging

Aseel Alfuhied et al.

Summary: The test-retest reproducibility of LA strain and strain rate assessment using CMR is moderate to poor, while LA volume and emptying fraction assessment is more reproducible. Intra- and inter-observer variabilities were good for most parameters except for conduit function. Further improvements in LA strain quantification are necessary before widespread clinical application.
