Kinetics, mechanisms and toxicity of the degradation of imidaclothiz in soil and water

Chang Ma et al.

Summary: Hydrolysis and photolysis are important degradation pathways of pesticides, while soil degradation is a principal metabolic pathway. Imidaclothiz, a controversial neonicotinoid pesticide, was found to be fairly stable in water and soil, but could produce more toxic degradation products. Experimental results and theoretical calculations elucidated the degradation mechanisms of imidaclothiz and its metabolites, showing higher toxicities of degradation products to aquatic organisms compared to the parent chemical.

Exposure to fungicide difenoconazole reduces the soil bacterial community diversity and the co-occurrence network complexity

Houpu Zhang et al.

Summary: Difenoconazole degrades faster in non-sterilized soils than in sterilized soils, indicating that biodegradation is a major factor in its dissipation. High concentrations of difenoconazole decrease soil bacterial community diversity, with this effect worsening as the concentration increases. The impact of difenoconazole on soil bacterial communities is also influenced by the organic matter and total nitrogen content in soils.

UV/chlorine process for degradation of benzothiazole and benzotriazole in water: Efficiency, mechanism and toxicity evaluation

Tao Yang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the degradation of Benzothiazole and Benzotriazole by UV/chlorine involved various reactive species and radicals, with different dominant mechanisms depending on the pH conditions. The efficiency of degradation was significantly influenced by pH values. Seven disinfection by-products were identified during the degradation process, with trichloromethane being the main by-product. The toxicity assessment revealed that detoxification of BZA could be achieved by UV/chlorine, while the toxicity of BTZ was increased due to the formation of intermediates.

Different activation methods in sulfate radical-based oxidation for organic pollutants degradation: Catalytic mechanism and toxicity assessment of degradation intermediates

Wenqi Wang et al.

Summary: With the continuous development of industrialization, more refractory organic pollutants are released into the environment, posing serious risks to human health and wildlife. The sulfate radical-based advanced oxidation technology is widely applied in organic pollutants treatment due to its high efficiency and eco-friendly nature. Various methods for persulfate and per-oxymonosulfate activation, identification of reactive oxygen species, toxicity of degradation intermediates, and detoxification and mineralization of target pollutants induced by different reactive oxygen species are comprehensively summarized.
