A new insight on enhanced Pb(II) removal by sludge biochar catalyst coupling with ultrasound irradiation and its synergism with phenol removal

Zeng-Hui Diao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the applicability of sludge biochar catalyst (SBC) coupling with ultrasound (US) for the simultaneous removal of Pb(II) and phenol. Results show that the SBC/US process has a superior removal performance for Pb(II) compared to SBC without US, and can also remove coexisting metal ions along with Pb(II). The synergistic removal of Pb(II) and phenol by SBC/US process involves adsorption, precipitation, reduction, and Fenton-like oxidation processes.

Ultrasound-assisted catalytic reduction of Cr(VI) by an acid mine drainage based nZVI coupling with FeS2 system from aqueous solutions: Performance and mechanism

Zeng-Hui Diao et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the ultrasound-assisted catalytic reduction of Cr(VI) by an acid mine drainage based nZVI (AMD-nZVI) coupling with FeS2 system. The results showed that nearly 98% of Cr(VI) removal was achieved within 60 minutes under optimal reaction conditions, and other pollutants could be effectively removed simultaneously. The study proposed an enhanced reaction mechanism involving the regeneration of more Fe2+ and H+ by AMD-nZVI/FeS2/US process, leading to the reduction of Cr(VI) into Cr(III) species.

KOH-activated porous biochar with high specific surface area for adsorptive removal of chromium (VI) and naphthalene from water: Affecting factors, mechanisms and reusability exploration

Jianhua Qu et al.

Summary: A high-performance porous biochar (PBCKOH) was successfully synthesized through KOH chemical activation, showing excellent adsorption performance for both Cr(VI) and NAP in water treatment. The PBCKOH achieved high uptake capacities for both contaminants and exhibited multiple kinetics during the adsorption process. The enhanced adsorption of Cr(VI) was mainly attributed to electrostatic attraction, complexation, ion exchange, and reduction actions, while the high NAP uptake was achieved through pore filling and π-π stacking interactions.

Green synthesis of hydrophilic activated carbon supported sulfide nZVI for enhanced Pb(II) scavenging from water: Characterization, kinetics, isotherms and mechanisms

Jianhua Qu et al.

Summary: In this study, green tea extracts were used as a reductant for the green synthesis of nZVI with low aggregation and high antioxidation, which was further modified with hydrophilic porous activated carbon and sulfidation technology. The results indicated the successful preparation of porous activated carbon with microporous and mesoporous characteristics and effective loading of S-nZVI nanoparticles. The S-nZVI@HPAC showed excellent pH-dependent adsorption performance for Pb(II) with fast kinetic equilibrium and outstanding binding capacity.
