Investigating the reduction of BTEX in automotive paint sludge combined with biological sludge by vermicomposting process using Eisenia fetida

Rahman Ghomi Avili et al.

Summary: The study investigated the feasibility of using Eisenia fetida worms to remove BTEX from paint sludge in the automotive industry. Results showed that in the optimal mixing ratio of sludge, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene concentrations decreased significantly over a period of 90 days. Additionally, the amount of volatile organic matter, pH, and C/N ratio also decreased during the vermicomposting process.
