Macroevolutionary patterns in European vegetation

Zdenka Lososova et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the phylogenetic structure of European vegetation types varies, with late-successional habitats showing phylogenetic overdispersion and early successional and disturbed habitats showing phylogenetic clustering. The phylogenetic similarity between vegetation types is higher within broad categories of vegetation types and biomes.

Peatland initiation in Central European Russia during the Holocene: Effect of climate conditions and fires

Elena Yu Novenko et al.

Summary: This study investigates the ages of peatland initiation in the central part of European Russia and reveals that the most active phases of peatland initiation occurred during warm periods between 8500-7500, 7000-6000, 5300-5800, 4000-3500, and 1700-1200 years BP. Peatland initiation mainly coincided with warm climatic periods and increased fire frequency.

Functional diversity and trait composition of vascular plant and Sphagnum moss communities during peatland succession across land uplift regions

Anna M. Laine et al.

Summary: The research shows that during peatland development, both vascular plant and Sphagnum moss communities exhibit trait trade-offs, but Sphagnum mosses display greater resistance to environmental change compared to vascular plants. Functional diversity increases in Sphagnum communities during peatland development, while it decreases in vascular plant communities.
