The culture potential and management problems of freshwater prawns (Macrobrachium americanum and Macrobrachium tenellum) in their native areas: the case for Mexico

Rodolfo de los Santos Romero et al.

Summary: Macrobrachium tenellum and M. americanum are common freshwater prawns from the tropical and subtropical Pacific continental side of the Americas. They have different biological attributes and are currently facing threats due to human impacts on their ecosystems. Both species offer varying quality products for human consumption, but are being intensively exploited without proper management.
