In situ supported Pd NPs on biodegradable chitosan/agarose modified magnetic nanoparticles as an effective catalyst for the ultrasound assisted oxidation of alcohols and activities against human breast cancer

Summary: A green approach was developed for the ultrasound-promoted immobilization of Pd NPs on a biodegradable chitosan/agarose modified ferrite NP. The magnetic material showed efficient catalytic performance in alcohol oxidation under ultrasonic waves and high antioxidant activities against DPPH free radicals. Moreover, it exhibited excellent cytotoxicity against various breast cancer cell lines, with the best anti-breast cancer potential observed in one particular cell line.

Summary: CLytA-DAAO immobilized in magnetic nanoparticles increases enzyme stability and prolongs action time. The gradual generation of reactive oxygen species by CLytA-DAAO is more effective in inducing cytotoxicity compared to direct addition of H2O2. Preliminary studies suggest that CLytA-DAAO immobilized in magnetic nanoparticles could be an effective anti-cancer therapy for pancreatic and colorectal carcinoma and glioblastoma.

Disulfiram-loaded functionalized magnetic nanoparticles combined with copper and sodium nitroprusside in breast cancer cells

Summary: Disulfiram, a reactive species generator, can induce cancer cell death in breast cancer but it degrades easily in blood. This study prepared a drug carrier system based on magnetic mesoporous silica nanoparticles to support selective accumulation of DSF in tumor cells. The system showed high drug-loading capacity and achieved cancer-selective accumulation through modifications with folic acid linked polyethyleneimine. The cytotoxicity of the system on breast cancer cells was higher than on non-tumorigenic cells due to enhanced uptake by cancer cells.

Fabrication and evaluation of aptamer-conjugated paclitaxel-loaded magnetic nanoparticles for targeted therapy on breast cancer cells

Summary: This study evaluated the capacity of an aptamer-based drug carrier SPIONs@PTX-SYL3C to deliver Paclitaxel (PTX) to cancer cells, showing that the aptamer-conjugated SPIONs@PTX had a higher cell internalization rate and toxicity compared to non-aptameric SPIONs@PTX. The results suggest that the aptamer-based drug carrier has good potential in recognizing target cells and inhibiting their growth and division.

Summary: The magnetic nanoparticles enhanced microwave imaging technique relies on modulating the response of nanocomponents with a polarizing magnetic field for tumor detection. However, spurious effects from instrumental drift and magnetic field interaction need to be minimized for accurate imaging. Experimental assessment in this paper provides design guidelines to mitigate unwanted magnetic effects and instrumental drift for optimal imaging conditions.

Periodic mesoporous organosilica-coated magnetite nanoparticles combined with lipiodol for transcatheter arterial chemoembolization to inhibit the progression of liver cancer

Summary: Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) is a standard treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) that involves injecting chemotherapeutic drugs and embolic agents into tumor tissues through intra-arterial transcatheter infusion. A new dual-modality imaging nanoplatform called Fe3O4@PMO-Cy5.5 has been developed for TACE treatment of liver cancer, which showed excellent drug loading capacity, sensitive drug release behavior, and good biocompatibility. Fe3O4@PMO-Cy5.5 can effectively inhibit liver cancer cell growth and induce more complete tumor tissue necrosis compared to traditional treatments.

The cancer therapy materialization by theranostic nanoparticles based on gold doped iron oxide under electromagnetic field amplification

Summary: This study investigated the use of gold-decorated Fe3O4 theranostic nanoparticles in cancer X-ray radiation therapy under an electromagnetic field, demonstrating their effectiveness in enhancing local irradiation dose and restricting energy absorption. The results showed that the cytotoxic properties of Au-Fe3O4 NPs were higher under 2 Gy radiation compared to 6 Gy radiation, and around 90% of cancer cells population was eliminated under electromagnetic field and X-ray radiation therapy. The in vivo measurements indicated a significant deterioration in tumor shape and size after 3 weeks of X-ray treatment with Au-Fe3O4 NPs.
