Genetic characteristics of gastric-type mucinous carcinoma of the uterine cervix

Eunhyang Park et al.

Summary: Gastric-type mucinous carcinoma (GAS) is a variant of endocervical mucinous adenocarcinoma characterized by aggressive behavior and chemoresistance. Next-generation sequencing revealed TP53 as the most frequently mutated gene, involved in signal transduction, DNA damage repair, and EMT. GAS shares some genetic features with gastrointestinal adenocarcinoma.

Massively parallel sequencing analysis of 68 gastric-type cervical adenocarcinomas reveals mutations in cell cycle-related genes and potentially targetable mutations

Pier Selenica et al.

Summary: In this study, genetic alterations in a large cohort of gastric-type cervical adenocarcinomas (GCA) and other related adenocarcinomas were analyzed and compared. It was found that GCAs commonly harbor mutations in TP53, CDKN2A, KRAS, and STK11, and exhibit low levels of copy number alterations. GCAs show distinctive genetic mutation characteristics compared to other adenocarcinomas, with higher mutation frequencies in certain genes.

Summary: This study describes a novel tumor, mostly located in paratubal area, with almost 50% cases associated with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome and STK11 alterations. The tumors exhibit unique morphological features and show positivity for various markers, but the exact histogenesis remains unclear.

AMPKα-like proteins as LKB1 downstream targets in cell physiology and cancer

Ester Molina et al.

Summary: LKB1 and AMPK alpha play crucial roles in cancer development by sensing and regulating energy requirements in tumor cells. In addition to these, there are multiple AMPK-like downstream targets of LKB1 involved in various cellular processes such as cell cycle progression, cell polarity, metabolism, and mitotic regulation.

STK11 alterations in the pan-cancer setting: prognostic and therapeutic implications

Nithya Krishnamurthy et al.

Summary: The study revealed that mutations in the STK11 gene are closely associated with the malignancy and survival rates of tumors, especially when co-altered with KRAS. Patients with co-alterations of STK11 and KRAS in the pan-cancer setting had worse outcomes regardless of treatment type.
