Molecular dynamic in binary mixtures and polymer blends with large difference in glass transition temperatures of the two components: A critical review

K. L. Ngai et al.

Summary: In highly asymmetric mixtures with large differences in T-g between components, the dynamics are complex and multiple interpretations of fast relaxations exist. Experimental data demonstrate the presence of JG beta-relaxation, with the confined-but-cooperative alpha 2-relaxation also playing a role.

The Dynamics of Hydrated Proteins Are the Same as Those of Highly Asymmetric Mixtures of Two Glass-Formers

Simone Capaccioli et al.

Summary: The dynamics of hydrated proteins are found to be richer than previously known, with the presence of two structural alpha-relaxations and the hydration water nu-relaxation coupled together. The dynamics of hydrated proteins are similar to that of highly asymmetric mixtures of glass-formers, as shown by the experimental results in this study.

Identifying the structural relaxation dynamics in a strongly asymmetric binary glass former

Xiao Jin et al.

Summary: The calorimetric and dielectric studies on the asymmetric binary mixtures of 2-picoline and triphenylethylene revealed extreme broadening of the calorimetric glass transition and relaxation dispersion, with a significant temperature dependence. The stretching exponent and non-linear factor relationship derived from the model showed a remarkable shift compared to pure molecular glass formers and symmetric mixtures, indicating extreme dynamical decoupling imposed by strong concentration fluctuations.
