Comparing the performance of microbial fuel cell with mechanical aeration and photosynthetic aeration in the cathode chamber

Summary: This study compared the power generation of a microbial fuel cell (MFC) using photosynthetic aeration and mechanical aeration. Results showed that photosynthetic aeration increased the maximum power density by 34.5% and reduced the internal resistance of the cell by 13.7%. Additionally, photosynthetic aeration facilitated microalgal biomass production, suggesting its potential for enhanced power generation in MFCs.

The synergistic effects of photocatalysis and MFC dramatically increased the pollutant removal efficiency while producing energy in situ, demonstrating extensive application prospects for actual wastewater treatment.

Current intensities altered the performance and microbial community structure of a bio-electrochemical system

Summary: A novel integrated bio-electrochemical system combining sulfur autotrophic denitrification and electrocoagulation was established for nitrate and phosphorus removal from contaminated groundwater. The system showed high removal efficiencies at specific current intensities, with low current enhancing microbial diversity and richness while high current inhibiting denitrification and phosphorus removal processes. Exciting findings shed light on the potential enhancement of nutrient removal in bioelectrochemical systems for groundwater treatment processes.

Semi-batch cultivation of Chlorella sorokiniana AK-1 with dual carriers for the effective treatment of full strength piggery wastewater treatment

Summary: This study optimized the process of microalgae-based piggery wastewater treatment by cultivating Chlorella sorokiniana AK-1 on untreated wastewater, achieving efficient COD/BOD/TN/TP removal and high biomass/protein productivities. The integration of immobilization carriers and semi-batch cultivation showed effective treatment of raw untreated piggery wastewater with high removal efficiencies. The innovative approach demonstrated excellent performance in simultaneously treating piggery wastewater and producing microalgal biomass.
