N-Acetylcysteine and Benfotiamine Protect Autotransplanted Ovarian Tissue From Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury: An Experimental Study

Sevim Tuncer et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of N-acetylcysteine and benfotiamine in protecting ovarian tissue from ischemic injury caused by slow neovascularization. The results showed that both benfotiamine and N-acetylcysteine were effective in protecting ovarian tissue against ischemic injury.

N-acetylcysteine protects ovarian follicles from ischemia-reperfusion injury in xenotransplanted human ovarian tissue

Hanna Ornes Olesen et al.

Summary: Daily administration of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) for 7-12 days post-transplantation can reduce ischemia-reperfusion injury and increase follicle survival in human ovarian xenografts. This treatment works by upregulating the antioxidant defense system and exerting anti-inflammatory and antiapoptotic effects.

Consequences of β-Thalassemia or Sickle Cell Disease for Ovarian Follicle Number and Morphology in Girls Who Had Ovarian Tissue Cryopreserved

Linn Salto Mamsen et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the ovarian tissue of girls with BT and SCD who underwent OTC before age 18, finding that their follicle numbers and health were similar to a reference group with normal ovaries. OTC should be considered as an option for fertility preservation in young girls and adolescents with BT and SCD.

Transplantation of cryopreserved ovarian tissue in a series of 285 women: a review of five leading European centers

Marie-Madeleine Dolmans et al.

Summary: The feasibility of freezing and thawing ovarian tissue is well-documented, but ovarian tissue transplantation is progressing at a slower pace with limited clinical experience. Results from five European centers show a low risk of relapse with ovarian tissue reimplantation and successful recovery of endocrine function in most patients, although in vitro fertilization efficacy needs improvement. Chemotherapy before ovarian tissue cryopreservation does not significantly affect success rates. Further research is needed to optimize the approach for ovarian tissue transplantation.

Adipose tissue-derived stem cells protect the primordial follicle pool from both direct follicle death and abnormal activation after ovarian tissue transplantation

Summary: ASCs exert positive effects on the ovarian reserve by protecting primordial follicles from direct death and maintaining their quiescence through modulation of the PI3K/Akt pathway.
